Undoubtedly iPhone and iPad are considered to be the most amazing technology in today’s world, but once their batteries run out, they are of no use. However, it does not has to be like that. Lately, Apple has made some great innovation with battery performance, especially on large plus models. For people using older versions of iPhones, battery life can still be annoying and getting through an entire thing can be problematic. To improve the situation, we have got covered some of the best ways to improve iPhone’s battery life.
Let’s take a look:
Quitting from applications is not the solution
This is one of the biggest battery saving myths. iPhone users try to quit apps to stop sucking the battery life. However, this is not at all a good idea. The loading and unloading of an application puts extra efforts on your device than just exiting the app. Apple has itself confirmed that closing apps has nothing to do with battery life.
You can opt for a LOW POWER MODE instead. This feature automatically turns off all but the most required power sucking functionality of your iPhone when you hit 20% battery power and even more at 10%. This low power mode can be enabled at any time, especially when you want to protect the battery. To activate low power mode, you just need to go to Settings >Battery and then toggle the switch to ON (green), i.e next to low power mode.
Deactivating Dynamic Backgrounds
Dynamic background is a motion feature in iOS. These are wallpapers that feature subtle movements. Though the look and feel they offer is cool, but it is not good for battery’s life. It drains your battery faster. To avoid this, you can use a still image for your wallpaper. To disable this feature, go to Settings> Wallpaper> Select a new Wallpaper from the “Stills” section.
Remove unwanted widgets
iOS 10 came up with widget screen functionality. This screen is visible only if a user swipes left to right from the lock screen. Widgets is visible as Calendar events, News items and weather by default. Remove the widgets that are of no use. This will prevent your phone resources from getting wasted.
To modify, scroll to the bottom of widgets screen and tap the “Edit” button. An “Add Widgets” screen is available wherein you can add and remove widgets as required.
Minimize exposure to extreme temperature
iPhone as a rechargeable device contains Lithium-ion batteries. They have important benefit for personal electronics along with some drawbacks. One of the drawbacks is diminished capacity in cool temperatures.
If you keep cold exposure to a minimum, your phone’s battery life will last longer. The required temperature for operating is between 0 and 35 degree centigrade.
Keep checking the battery usage
Go to Settings> General> Battery. Now, wait for battery usage report to load. This will let you analyze the battery usage and standby times. Usage time includes how long the device was used and Stand by indicates the total time that has passed since the last charge. Usage must be lower than Standby.
To test battery performance, consider usage and standby times. Now, put the device to sleep by pressing ON/OFF switch. Rest for 5 minutes and then check the change in time. If your device is functioning properly, usage time should go up by less than a minute. Similarly, the standby time should have acquired 5 minutes. If there is a minute increase on the usage time, there is some problem associated with battery.
Reduce the level of brightness
You can also set the brightness automatically. Go to Settings> Display & Brightness > Reduce the brightness level by adjusting the slider. This sets the maximum value of screen brightness and can do a lot to save that extra battery charge.
Turn off 4G
Modern mobile networks come with another blessing, i.e.4 G network. If you are running low on power and the quickest internet speeds are not a priority, disable 4 G at that moment. Go to Settings> Cellular> Voice & Data. Now select 3G.
Stop Background App Refresh
Background app refresh is a feature most prevalent in iOS. It allows applications to learn when you check them frequently. This lets the app know when you will check them again. It is a completely handy feature. To disable Background App refresh, go to Settings> General> Background App Refresh> toggle the Switch to OFF or toggle individual apps ON or OFF.
Use of airplane mode
In the Airplane mode, your phone does not send or receive any signal. This dramatically limits its functionality. It also extends the battery life. Always opt for switching in Airplane mode while tuning in offline music or video content. Switching in the airplane mode while charging your device will also allow it to charge slightly faster.
Some other ways you can increase the battery life of your iPhone is by switching off WiFi, watching video games sparingly and keeping your phone up to date. You also need to ensure that your iPhone or iPad does not get too heated.
You can also consider an external battery pack. Some external batteries are also useful in extending the battery life of your iPhone by multiple folds. If you are still experiencing problem with iOS battery life, let us know in the comment section below. We will be happy to serve your queries.
