Journey to the West
The “King of Monkeys 2” slot game is based on a famous 16th-century Chinese novel “Journey to the West” by Wu Cheng’en. The novel tells of a Buddhist monk Tang Sanzang who travels from China to India to obtain the sacred sutras (Buddhist texts). Tang Sanzang is joined by the three immortal creatures who, to atone for their sins, must become his disciples and provide him with aid and protection. One of these supernatural creatures is Sun Wukong, the Monkey King.
Sun Wukong appears in many legends. He is a monkey that performed Taoist practices and thus acquired supernatural powers such as immense strength and agility.
Eventually, he became so powerful and arrogant that he rebelled against Heaven and then as if that wasn’t enough, had a quarrel with Buddha himself which ended by Sun Wukong being imprisoned under the mountain. To make up for his behavior, the Monkey King joins Tang Sanzang in the monk’s quest for the sutra. This character originates from the ancient legends of the White Monkey that were popular at the time of Chu kingdom (700–223 BC). Another cultural influence is Hanuman, a Hindu deity, the patron of acrobatics, meditation, and martial arts. Sun Wukong is immensely popular in Chinese culture even to this day and has become well-known in the Western world due to multiple adaptations of the story for the film, animation, and computer games.
Meet the King
“King of Monkeys 2” is a high-variance five-reel, three-row video slot game with 25 fixed paylines, 243 betways, and an RTP of 96,2%. The maximum win that can be achieved is $25,000. Your bet can range from $0.01 to $0.50.
The lowest-paying symbols are a Lotus flower, the Buddhist symbol of purity of body and mind; a Sutra, the scroll containing the sacred Buddhist texts; a string of Chinese lucky coins that symbolize wealth and prosperity; a medicine vessel made of calabash gourd that absorbs the negative energy; a green gem, and a golden crown.
The higher-paying symbols are the portraits of the four main characters of the legend: Tang Sanzang, the Buddhist monk who travelled far west to retrieve the Buddhist scriptures and bring them to China; Zhu Baje, whose name means “Pig of the Eight Prohibitions”, an immortal who was sent to the world of mortals and was accidentally reborn as a half-man, half-pig; Sha Wujing, meaning “Sand Awakened to Purity”, a hideous-looking immortal that wields a magic wooden staff. The last but not the least is Sun Wukong, the King of the monkeys of the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit
There is also a Wild symbol, a writing in Chinese in golden letters on red background, that will give you 100x your bet if you get five of these symbols on the reels. The Temple is a Scatter symbol; three of these will launch a massive bonus feature.
Every time you win, you can choose to use the Gamble feature: you can bet on which card, red or black, is going to be drawn. If your guess is right, your winnings double.
Free Spins
The feature is triggered if at least three Scatter symbols land on the reels. When they do, ten free spins are awarded to you. During the bonus game, you need to collect various items belonging to Sanzang’s disciples: a dagger, a sword, boots, a green garment, and a hammer. The spins are played on two sets of reels at the same time. Once you have collected 9 of these special symbols, the third set of reels will appear, with the fifth reel full of Wilds. 14 special symbols unlock the fourth set of reels, which have the last two reels all-Wild. If your luck holds to the point where you collect 30 special symbols, the last three columns on every set of the reels will go Wild.
The portrait of the Monkey King in all his golden glory will only appear during the bonus round. This symbol brings you a 1.20-20x award.
Conclusion
This “King of Monkeys 2” slot game is colorful, dynamic, and generally very well done. You might be surprised at first at how few special features there are, but, once you have a closer look, the Free Spins feature turns out to be a treasure chest with secret compartments full of money. All in all, this is an entertaining, high-quality game that is worth investing your time and Bitcoins in.
